Fishing Sign

North Carolina Sea Grant’s popular seafood availability chart was recently adapted for display at the N.C. Aquarium at Roanoke Island’s new pier.

Larry Warner, aquarium curator of exhibits, was on the team that helped create the displays. He says that the sign was placed close to where people fish and is well-used. “I see people use it to measure fish. I also see people using their smartphones to access the Division of Marine Fisheries mobile site using the QR code,” Warner says.

The pier was funded through grants from the Coastal Recreational Fishing License Grants Program and matching state funds. Access to the pier is included with admission to the aquarium. For pier-based activities including fishing, crabbing and kayaking, see the aquarium’s website at www.ncaquariums.com/roanoke-island.
