Jot Owens, NCSG Advisory Board

Capt. Jot Owens has been in the southeast North Carolina fishing industry for more than 20 years.

Owens began his fishing career when he was just 14, working at a local fish market and doing commercial fishing. In 1995, he became a mate on some of the local charter fishing boats out of Wrightsville Beach.

Today, Owens has managed to translate his lifetime passion for fishing and guiding into his own charter business, which he began in 2007. He is a state and federal finfish tagger — tagging striped bass, red drum and sharks for N.C. Division of Marine Fisheries, as well as the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

He is also on the Cape Fear River Striped Bass Foundation Board.
