{"id":17229,"date":"2022-12-09T10:23:01","date_gmt":"2022-12-09T15:23:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncseagrant.ncsu.edu\/coastwatch\/?page_id=17229"},"modified":"2025-08-26T11:32:35","modified_gmt":"2025-08-26T15:32:35","slug":"letter-from-the-executive-director-winter-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncseagrant.ncsu.edu\/coastwatch\/letter-from-the-executive-director-winter-2022\/","title":{"rendered":"Letter from the Executive Director: What Is North Carolina Sea Grant?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Winter 2022: What Is North Carolina Sea Grant?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Five years ago we made the video above to begin to answer the question <em>What Is North Carolina Sea Grant?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since then, North Carolina Sea Grant has continued to evolve and expand, yet much of our work addresses the same important coastal issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ncseagrant.ncsu.edu\/coastwatch\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2020\/12\/white_coversize-2.jpg\" alt=\"image: Susan White.\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Susan White, executive director of North Carolina Sea Grant.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>While some of the faces have changed, we remain committed to healthy coastal ecosystems, sustainable fisheries and aquaculture, strong communities and coastal economies, and education and outreach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 2022 North Carolina Coastal Conference in November has re-energized us as we head into 2023, and you can watch much of the conference <span style=\"color: #0000ff\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff\" href=\"https:\/\/ncseagrant.ncsu.edu\/coastwatch\/current-issue\/winter-2022\/2022-coastal-conference\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a><\/span>, in this special<span style=\"color: #0000ff\"> <a style=\"color: #0000ff\" href=\"https:\/\/ncseagrant.ncsu.edu\/coastwatch\/current-issue\/winter-2022\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">digital issue of <em>Coastwatch<\/em><\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019re taking on exciting new work in climate resiliency, eco-tourism, environmental health, and many other areas, while continuing to build on our long history of research and real-world solutions for our coast.
