On April 16, 2014, we hosted the North Carolina Sea Grant Research Symposium: Investments and Opportunities<\/a> \u2014 known in short as NCSG Day 2014.<\/p>\n

The purpose of the symposium was to highlight excellence across our Sea Grant-sponsored research and extension efforts. We also wanted to facilitate stakeholder discussions to identify research, extension, applied science investment opportunities, and collaborative partnerships to effectively address North Carolina\u2019s coastal needs now and into the future.<\/p>\n

The outcomes and lessons learned from the symposium were summarized in a white paper<\/a>.<\/p>\n

To continue the momentum from this event, Sea Grant sponsored a request for proposals<\/a> (RFP) for hypothesis-based research proposals based around four categories identified at the Symposium:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Infrastructure in the coastal zone,<\/li>\n
  2. Long-term datasets,<\/li>\n
  3. Tidal creek systems, and<\/li>\n
  4. Research to inform restoration.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    We received 22 proposals in response to this RFP. The final technical review panel met on Nov. 14, 2014, to review the proposals. Sea Grant’s management team received suggestions from the panel members on which projects should receive funding.<\/p>\n

    Sea Grant expects to fund three proposals from this RFP cycle, with an official announcement in the coming weeks. The new research will continue our long-term efforts to enhance sustainable use and conservation of ocean and coastal resources to benefit communities, economies and ecosystems.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
