The Winter 2015 issue of Coastwatch<\/em> went to press last week. I’m glad to put another issue to rest \u2014 and happy to give you a sneak peek at its contents.<\/p>\n

John Fear, our deputy director, has been here for about a year. Katie Mosher catches up with him to discuss how he got to North Carolina Sea Grant and what he plans to do.<\/p>\n

The Rachel Carson Reserve<\/a>, part of the N.C. Coastal Reserve and National Estuarine Research Reserve System<\/a>, was a popular location for research featured in this issue. We feature two oyster-related projects by scientists at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Institute of Marine Sciences<\/a> and one on sea-level rise by Margaret Garner, the 2013 joint Sea Grant\/Reserve fellow<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Susan West \u2014 journalist, radio personality, fisherman’s wife and community leader \u2014 delivers a piece about three women in the fishing industry, who are forging their own paths in what is traditionally seen as a male-dominated business.<\/p>\n

And Rebecca Nagy takes a walk through a salt marsh, with help from North Carolina’s Amazing Coast: From Alligators to Zoeas<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

I had promised recipes for aquacultured species in a previous blog post<\/a>. Vanda Lewis, food blogger and photographer, delivered. She hunted down farm-raised catfish and oysters from her local seafood store to cook.<\/p>\n

Can’t wait to get the Winter 2015 issue in the mail? We’ll be handing out issues at the N.C. Aquaculture Development Conference<\/a> on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 27 and 28.<\/p>\n

And if you want to be one of the first people to get the Spring 2015 issue, come to N.C.’s Coastal Conference<\/a> on April 14.<\/p>\n
