{"id":16488,"date":"2025-09-11T09:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-09-11T13:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncseagrant.ncsu.edu\/mariners-menu\/?p=16488"},"modified":"2025-06-16T12:23:07","modified_gmt":"2025-06-16T16:23:07","slug":"deviled-crab-with-fish","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncseagrant.ncsu.edu\/mariners-menu\/deviled-crab-with-fish\/","title":{"rendered":"Deviled Crab with Fish"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Recipe<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u00bd pound fish flakes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00bd pound special or claw crabmeat<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 tablespoons chopped onions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 tablespoons butter<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 tablespoons flour<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00be cup milk<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00bc teaspoon salt<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u215b teaspoon freshly ground black pepper<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00bd teaspoon dry mustard<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00bd teaspoon sage<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00b9\u2044\u2081\u2086 teaspoon cayenne pepper<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00bc teaspoon Tabasco sauce<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 egg, beaten<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 tablespoon butter, melted<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00bc cup dry bread crumbs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Preheat the oven to 350\u00b0 F.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Remove any shell or cartilage from crabmeat. In medium pan, cook onion in butter until tender. Blen in flour. Add milk gradually and cook until thick, stirring constantly. Add salt, black pepper, mustard, Worcestershire, sage, cayenne, lemon juice and Tabasco. Stir a little of this sauce into the egg and mix well. Slowly add egg mix back to sauce, stirring constantly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gently stir in parsley, crabmeat and fish flakes. Place in greased, individual crab shells or baking dishes. Combine butter and crumbs, sprinkle over tops.
