{"id":6505,"date":"2016-09-19T09:58:09","date_gmt":"2016-09-19T13:58:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncseagrant.ncsu.edu\/mariners-menu\/?p=6505"},"modified":"2024-01-09T15:09:16","modified_gmt":"2024-01-09T20:09:16","slug":"shrimp-creole","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncseagrant.ncsu.edu\/mariners-menu\/shrimp-creole\/","title":{"rendered":"Shrimp Creole"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Recipe<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>1 pound small shrimp, peeled and deveined<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u215b cup olive oil<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00bd cup chopped onion<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00bc cup chopped green onion, including tops<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00bd cup chopped celery<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 teaspoons finely chopped garlic<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 (14.5-ounce) can chopped tomatoes, undrained<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 cup fish or chicken broth<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 tablespoons red wine<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00bd teaspoon salt<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 bay leaf<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00bc teaspoon freshly ground black pepper<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u215b teaspoon cayenne pepper<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00bc teaspoon dried thyme leaves<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 tablespoons flour mixed with \u00bc cup water<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 cup uncooked rice<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Heat oil in large saucepan over medium heat. Saut\u00e9&nbsp;onion, green onion, celery and garlic. Add tomatoes, broth, wine, salt, bay leaf, black pepper, cayenne and thyme. Bring to boil. Cover, reduce heat and simmer 30 minutes. Slowly stir in flour mixture to thicken. Continue to simmer for another 10 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, cook rice according to package directions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Add shrimp to sauce and simmer until they are done, about 10 minutes. Remove bay leaf.
