NC Sea Grant is seeking a Coastal Tourism Intern for a short-term summer internship to compile and develop coastal science and educational resources for visitors to North Carolina’s coast. This is a paid, short-term summer internship that will run roughly from June 1 to August 14.

The purpose of this internship is to support efforts to help visitors contribute to healthy coastal ecosystems; resilient communities and economies; sustainable seafood and aquaculture; and environmental literacy and workforce development. Primary job duties are the following:

• Compile coastal science and education content for a new NC Sea Grant webpage that focuses on coastal visitors
• Develop new communication products (e.g. social media content, magnets, posters) targeted for coastal visitors
• Conduct outreach with partners who can help distribute NC Sea Grant resources to coastal visitors

Applicants should be enrolled in an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in communications, environmental science/studies, natural resources, marine science, or other related field. Applicants will ideally have:

• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• The ability to work independently
•  Experience with communications and public outreach or education

This internship will require at least 30 and up to 40 hours a week for about 11 weeks. The intern can be based anywhere in North Carolina, preferably near Raleigh or on the coast. The supervisor for this position is located in Raleigh at North Carolina State University. The position will be hybrid or remote depending on the location of the intern.
