From September 2006 through April 2007, the Joint Legislative Commission on Seafood and Aquaculture appointed North Carolina Sea Grant to lead the Waterfront Access Study Committee (WASC).
The committee was chaired by Michael Voiland, North Carolina Sea Grant’s executive director, and explored the degree of loss and potential loss of diversity of uses along the coastal shoreline of North Carolina and how these losses impacted access to the public trust waters of the state.
The final WASC report helped lead to the creation of the N.C. Waterfront Access and Marine Industry (WAMI) Fund.
