She will apply economic analysis and other social science methods to meet the needs of North Carolina’s coastal residents and other stakeholders. Her work will inform coastal decision makers about the intersections between sustainable use of ocean and coastal resources and economic development.

“We are excited to have Jane join the Sea Grant team. Her expertise in applied economics and social science analysis will help North Carolina’s leaders make decisions that will benefit our coastal resources and economy,” says Jack Thigpen, Sea Grant extension director.

Her recent research has focused on the economic impacts of beach closures and river restoration. Additionally, Harrison has conducted market research on demand for local seafood products. She uses survey research and other qualitative methods to assist stakeholder decision-making and inform outreach professionals.

Harrison earned her doctorate in forest social science from Oregon State University. She also holds a Master of Science degree in agricultural, environmental and development economics from The Ohio State University. Previously she worked in the Great Lakes region for Wisconsin Sea Grant as a social science outreach specialist.

Based in Raleigh, Harrison can be contacted at jane_harrison@ncsu.edu or 919-513-0122.
