North Carolina Sea Grant and the North Carolina Coastal Reserve and National Estuarine Research Reserve are accepting applications for the 2016 N.C. Coastal Research Fellowship.

One successful applicant will receive a grant of up to $10,000 for the 2016 calendar year, subject to sufficient funding and quality of the received applications.

The fellowship provides North Carolina-based graduate students with an opportunity to conduct research within the 10 sites of the North Carolina Coastal Reserve. The fellow must conduct research that addresses coastal management issues in one, or more, of the following focus areas:

  • Ecosystem service valuation
  • Resilience of coastal communities and habitats to coastal hazards
  • Linkages between land use and water quality
  • Conservation, management and restoration of coastal habitats

Application materials, including a four-page research project proposal, should be sent to Reserve Research Coordinator Brandon Puckett at brandon.puckett@ncdenr.gov. Applications must be submitted by 5 p.m., Nov. 20, 2015. A current CV and a letter of support from the applicant’s major professor, who will serve as principal investigator for the project, must also be included.

The North Carolina Coastal Reserve and National Estuarine Research Reserve is a program of the N.C. Division of Coastal Management in the N.C. Department of Environmental Quality. North Carolina Sea Grant is an interinstitutional program within the University of North Carolina system and is part of the national Sea Grant network.
