Rogers also is recognized from the Carolina coast to Australia as an expert on rip current science and outreach. He a founding member and Sea Grant network representative on a <a href=\"http:\/\/ripcurrents.noaa.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">task force on rip current safety<\/a> that includes partners from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the U.S. Lifesaving Association.<\/p>\n<p>He serves on the faculty at the <a href=\"http:\/\/uncw.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">University of North Carolina at Wilmington\u2019s<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/uncw.edu\/cms\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Center for Marine Science<\/a>, and as adjunct faculty in the department of civil, construction, and environmental engineering at North Carolina State University. He has won awards from NOAA and NC State, among others.<\/p>\n<p>Rogers co-authored <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1dy7opF_3A25SKa7u9XW-Xozy5XW38taw\/view?usp=sharing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>The Dune Book<\/em><\/a>, a guidebook on dune species, planning, and best management practices along developed shorelines. He also has contributed to the FEMA Coastal Construction Manual. His research has been published in numerous scholarly journals, including the <em>Journal of the American Shore and Beach Preservation Association,<\/em> and the <em>Journal of Marine Education<\/em>. He also is a regular speaker at conferences about coastal engineering and hazards, including the annual <em>Solutions to Coastal Disasters<\/em>. Rogers was part of a select group of engineers and scientists on the FEMA Hurricane Katrina Mitigation Assessment Team to conduct a coastal damage evaluation in Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama.<\/p>\n<p>Rogers joined Sea Grant in 1978, having worked as a coastal engineer for the Bureau of Beaches and Shores in the Florida Department of Natural Resources during his early career.
