{"id":22372,"date":"2024-12-03T15:13:39","date_gmt":"2024-12-03T20:13:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncseagrant.ncsu.edu\/people\/snwhite3\/"},"modified":"2024-12-04T10:34:22","modified_gmt":"2024-12-04T15:34:22","slug":"susan-white","status":"publish","type":"person","link":"https:\/\/ncseagrant.ncsu.edu\/people\/susan-white\/","title":{"rendered":"Susan White"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Susan White is the executive director for North Carolina Sea Grant, the<a href=\"https:\/\/wrri.ncsu.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u00a0Water Resources Research Institute<\/a>\u00a0for the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.unc.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">University of North Carolina,<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ncspacegrant.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">North Carolina Space Grant<\/a>. All three programs provide targeted research, outreach and education projects to address critical issues in the state and within the region. Sea Grant, with funding from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and WRRI, with funding from the U.S. Geological Survey,\u00a0 focus on coastal, ocean and water resource topics for ecosystems and communities.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncspacegrant.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Space Grant<\/a>\u00a0projects, with funding from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, include partnerships with the aerospace industry.<\/p>\n<p>In fall 2017, White was named chair of the N.C. Sediment Control Commission by Gov. Roy Cooper. She previously was director of NOAA\u2019s\u00a0Hollings Marine Laboratory in Charleston, S.C. Formerly the national research coordinator for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/deq.nc.gov\/about\/divisions\/coastal-management\/nc-coastal-reserve-and-national-estuarine-research-reserve?fbclid=IwAR0shu27OtFazbaoTeOjnlhIDdLsmJXNz01pDFuSiHDWY0Y3ETX5fH3hWzg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NOAA\u2019s Estuarine Reserves Division and National Estuarine Research Reserve System<\/a>, she has served on national and regional steering committees on topics including technology transfer, integrated drought monitoring and early warning, and climate\u2019s connections to health.
