Lee Cannon has joined\u00a0<\/span>North Carolina Sea Grant<\/span><\/a> communications team, where she will focus on collaborations with the <\/span>Water Resources Research Institute<\/span><\/a> and <\/span>North Carolina Space Grant.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n Cannon began her communications career in Washington, D.C., where she spent time at the Embassy of Japan, the Smithsonian Institution and arts and education nonprofits. She holds a bachelor\u2019s degree in English literature and writing from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a master\u2019s degree in creative writing from the University of North Carolina Wilmington. <\/span><\/p>\n As the communicator for WRRI and Space Grant, Cannon works with the respective program colleagues, scientific researchers and community partners. For WRRI, that includes sharing impacts of water-focused research with water managers and the public. For NC Space Grant, Cannon promotes aeronautics and STEM education in order to equip the aerospace workforce with a diverse talent base.<\/span><\/p>\n As part of her efforts to quickly inform scientists, students, practitioners and the public about pertinent research and opportunities, Cannon has expanded the programs\u2019 social media presence to include new <\/span>Facebook<\/span><\/a> and <\/span>LinkedIn<\/span><\/a>\u00a0pages for WRRI and a public <\/span>LinkedIn<\/span><\/a> presence for NC Space Grant. These round out the current portfolio of WRRI\u2019s <\/span>Twitter<\/span><\/a> account and NC Space Grant\u2019s <\/span>Facebook<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>Twitter<\/span><\/a> and <\/span>Instagram<\/span><\/a> accounts.
