Completed\u00a0preproposals \u2014 due by\u00a0<strong>5 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, 2019<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 are the required first step for this funding cycle.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPreproposals\u00a0identify coastal research needs and describe how those topics relate to North Carolina,\u201d explains\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ncseagrant.ncsu.edu\/about-us\/our-team\/john-fear\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><u>John Fear<\/u><\/a>, Sea Grant deputy director. \u201cWe expect to see diverse topics from researchers across the state.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Full proposals will be encouraged later only from investigators who have submitted preproposals. Maximum Sea Grant funding will be $120,000 per project for the two-year period, also known as the Omnibus Funding Cycle. North Carolina Sea Grant requires a non-federal match equal to at least 50 percent of the funding requested.<\/p>\n<p>Proposals in a wide range of disciplines are encouraged, as are interdisciplinary and interinstitutional proposals that reflect linkages within the state. Preproposals must emphasize, and fall under, one of the Focus Areas listed in the <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1UAnYiSfL8mNHE99hxwCNdvXLAVwMWWY_\/view?usp=sharing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2018\u20132021 North Carolina Sea Grant Strategic Plan<\/a>,\u00a0which is included as a link in the application materials.<\/p>\n<p>When preparing a preproposal, the principal investigator also must identify uses for \u2014 and measurable impacts of \u2014 the project\u2019s results. Researchers also must explain how those results will be shared with user groups. Prospective applicants are encouraged to discuss topics and potential uses of the results with Sea\u00a0Grant team members.<\/p>\n<p>In the preproposal stage, researchers are not required to have approval through a campus administrative process.
