Knauss Marine Policy Fellowship<\/u><\/a>, offered by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration\u2019s National Sea Grant Office. <strong>The deadline is Feb. 22, 2019.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The prestigious fellowship honors John A. Knauss, who was a Sea Grant founder, NOAA administrator and dean of the University of Rhode Island\u2019s Graduate School of Oceanography.\u00a0Placements for fellows have included U.S. Senate and House offices, departments in the executive branch, NOAA programs and other agencies.<\/p>\n<p>The program places graduate students in Washington, D.C. to work on federal policies and processes that affect ocean, coastal and Great Lakes issues. The dates of the fellowship are Feb. 1, 2020 to Feb. 28, 2021.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are honored to nominate strong North Carolina students for this opportunity every year,\u201d says John Fear, North Carolina Sea Grant deputy director. \u201cFellows gain vital professional experience in marine policy that informs their future research and careers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>North Carolina Sea Grant will nominate students from graduate or professional programs, regardless of citizenship. Students must be enrolled in a North Carolina academic institution at the time of application deadline. Up to six North Carolina candidates will be nominated to the National Sea Grant Office for the national level competition.<\/p>\n<p>Applications must be received by<strong>\u00a0Feb. 22, 2019 at 5 p.m<\/strong>. North Carolina Sea Grant uses face-to-face interviews as part of the state-level review process. These will take place in Raleigh in mid-March 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Detailed instructions are online in North Carolina Sea Grant&#8217;s application portal, eSeaGrant:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/go.ncsu.edu\/ncesg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>go.ncsu.edu\/ncesg<\/em><\/a>. All applications must be completed in the portal.<\/p>\n<p>North Carolina Sea Grant has four 2019 Knauss Fellows: Alicia M. Cheripka, Jill Hamilton, and Chrissy Hayes will serve in executive branch offices. William Thaxton will serve in a legislative branch office.
