These fellowships are funded by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncseagrant.org\/\">North Carolina Sea Grant<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/wrri.ncsu.edu\/\">Water Resources Research Institute of the University of North Carolina system<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The research call was designed to reach new and diverse audiences, and applicants were strongly encouraged to collaborate with Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Minority Serving Institutions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe recognized that there are groups of faculty and students, as well as communities in our state, who have been underserved and underrepresented in terms of water-related research,\u201d notes Nicole Wilkinson, WRRI coordinator for research and outreach. \u201cWe wanted to target our funding in such a way that it created opportunities to address some of those gaps.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The competitive funding opportunity was open to graduate students across the state. The 2017 fellows are from<strong> [\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ecu.edu\">East Carolina University<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncsu.edu\">North Carolina State University<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unc.edu\">University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uncg.edu\">UNC-Greensboro]<\/a>.<\/strong> They are:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Lise received her MS in Water Science Engineering from Polytech Montpellier, in Montpellier, France. She has worked as an intern at several consulting firms specialized in water resource management and hydraulic modeling.
