North Carolina Sea Grant has re-established its minigrant program that often allows researchers to pilot test new lines of inquiry.

“Our minigrants usually lead to great returns on investment, with recipients often able to leverage funding and expand their Sea Grant-funded work into larger studies,” says John Fear, North Carolina Sea Grant’s deputy director. “These projects have a great tradition of supporting student research — and of creating meaningful impacts.”

Minigrants are processed on a rolling basis, as they are received. The new application process has two changes from previous cycles. Researchers now submit online proposals, a change that will streamline and improve the submission process, as well as reporting of those impacts. Also, projects can now be less than $10,000, rather than the previous limit of $5,000. Projects still must support the program’s strategic plan.

North Carolina Sea Grant is a part of the National Sea Grant College Program in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Interested applicants should contact John Fear at jmfear@ncsu.edu or 919-515-9104. To learn more, visit North Carolina Sea Grant’s minigrants page and download the instructions.

##

North Carolina Sea Grant has renewed its minigrant program that often allows researchers to pilot test new lines of inquiry.
