FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE<\/strong><\/p>\n Contact: Katie Mosher, 919-515-9069, kmosher@ncsu.edu<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n or Sara Mirabilio 252-475-5488 or semirabi@ncsu.edu<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n North Carolina Sea Grant fisheries specialists Scott Baker and Sara Mirabilio will host a networking and skill-building workshop for a rising generation of men and women involved in commercial fishing. The session from Jan. 7 to 9 \u00a0builds upon a 2018 series of workshops \u2014 coined Fish Camps. Those initial sessions were part of a Sea Grant-funded social science research project looking at aging in the fishing fleet as younger people seek jobs outside of the industry.<\/p>\n Workshops cover a broad range of topics: securing financing, business management, fisheries management, related science, fishing vessel safety and more. Partners include staff from UNC-TV’s\u00a0North Carolina Science Now<\/em> and the Small Business Center at Carteret Community College. In addition, the director of the N.C. Division of Marine Fisheries, Steve Murphey, will hold a \u201ckitchen-table\u201d style conversation with participants.<\/p>\n Baker and Mirabilio will hold the Fish Camp at the Trinity Center in Salter Path in Carteret County. Participants will receive two nights lodging, all meals and a modest compensation for lost fishing income from attending the training.<\/p>\n Space is limited. Pre-registration is required.
