North Carolina\u2019s Space Grant\u00a0<\/a>and\u00a0Sea Grant<\/a>\u00a0programs are currently accepting applications for Graduate Research Fellowships for the 2023-2024 academic year. Two fellowships of up to $10,000 may be awarded to students whose projects address a priority research need within the state\u2019s nearshore environments, coastal areas, watersheds or human activities in these areas.<\/p>\n Applications are due by 5 p.m. ET on March 31, 2023.\u00a0<\/strong>The successful applicant(s) will be notified around May 15, 2023.<\/p>\n The fellows must use data and technology available through the National Aeronautics and Space Agency (NASA<\/a>) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA<\/a>). Research must relate to both the\u00a0NC Space Grant<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0NC Sea Grant<\/a>\u2019s strategic plans.<\/p>\n This joint fellowship is available to full-time graduate students enrolled in an accredited university in the State of North Carolina who are in good academic standing and conducting faculty-mentored research. Applicants must be U.S. citizens.<\/p>\n \u201cNC Space Grant is excited to read the research proposals about students\u2019 plans to take advantage of the vast resources available such as NASA and NOAA instruments, technology and data sources,\u201d notes Sandra Canfield, NC Space Grant assistant director.<\/p>\n Applications are strongly encouraged from graduate students attending historically black colleges and universities and minority serving institutions, and from traditionally underserved and underrepresented communities. In addition, graduate students who can demonstrate how their work and related outreach will benefit underserved and underrepresented communities are encouraged to apply.<\/p>\n The research must start after June 1, 2023, and be completed by May 31, 2024. Fellows will have the opportunity to present their research findings at a meeting or conference among peer researchers and other audiences, such as the annual NC Space Symposium, hosted by NC Space Grant, and NC Sea Grant\u2019s NC Coastal Conference. In addition, fellows will engage in public outreach regarding their research findings.<\/p>\n
