{"id":19367,"date":"2022-09-06T13:38:20","date_gmt":"2022-09-06T17:38:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ncseagrant.ncsu.edu\/news\/?p=14592"},"modified":"2023-12-07T16:58:43","modified_gmt":"2023-12-07T21:58:43","slug":"sea-grant-and-apnep-set-oct-31-deadline-for-fellowship-applications","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ncseagrant.ncsu.edu\/sea-grant-and-apnep-set-oct-31-deadline-for-fellowship-applications\/","title":{"rendered":"Sea Grant and APNEP Set Oct. 31 Deadline for Fellowship Applications"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>For immediate release<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Contact: John Fear, <em><a href=\"mailto:jmfear@ncsu.edu\">jmfear@ncsu.edu<\/a><\/em><br \/>\nor Tim Ellis, <em><a href=\"mailto:tim.ellis@apnep.org\">tim.ellis@apnep.org<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/apnep.nc.gov\/\">Albemarle-Pamlico National Estuary Partnership<\/a> (APNEP) and North Carolina Sea Grant are accepting applications for the 2022 Graduate Fellowship in Estuarine Research.<\/p>\n<p>The fellowship will fund a graduate student based in North Carolina to conduct applied research within the North Carolina portion of the APNEP management area.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPartnering with Sea Grant to offer this graduate fellowship opportunity is something APNEP looks forward to each year,\u201d says Tim Ellis, APNEP\u2019s quantitative ecologist. \u201cThe research generated by our fellows helps inform the conservation and management of the nation\u2019s second largest estuarine system.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>John Fear, Sea Grant deputy director, says assisting our agency partners in the management of our state&#8217;s vast natural resources is a highlight of this fellowship.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStrong student training opportunities across all backgrounds is another great benefit,\u201d Fear says. \u201cWe strongly encourage proposals from graduate students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities and from Minority Serving Institutions, as well as from graduate students from traditionally underserved and underrepresented communities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Graduate students must propose hypothesis-based research that addresses one or more of the following broad focus areas:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Estuary Spatial Planning<\/li>\n<li>Submerged Aquatic Vegetation<\/li>\n<li>Coastal Water Quality<\/li>\n<li>Ecological Flows<\/li>\n<li>Wetlands<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Proposed work should relate to the <a href=\"http:\/\/apnep.nc.gov\/resources\/publications-and-reports\/ccmp\"><em>APNEP Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan<\/em><\/a> and to <a href=\"https:\/\/ncseagrant.ncsu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/NCSeaGrantStrategicPlan_2018_2023_FINAL.pdf\"><em>North Carolina Sea Grant\u2019s Strategic Plan<\/em><\/a>, as well as demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion aligned with the visions of <a href=\"https:\/\/ncseagrant.ncsu.edu\/about\/diversity-equity-inclusion-justice-and-accessibility\/\">Sea Grant<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/apnep.nc.gov\/documents\/files\/apnep-diversity-equity-and-inclusion-statement\">APNEP<\/a>. Applicants should demonstrate how their work and related outreach will benefit underserved and underrepresented communities.<\/p>\n<p>The fellowship will be up to $10,000.
