The NOAA Office for Coastal Management is recruiting candidates for the 2024 Coastal Management and Digital Coast Fellowship Program. Application packages must be submitted by Friday, January 26, 2024 to the Sea Grant office in the state where graduate students received their degree.

“We are eager to have recent and current graduate students from North Carolina apply,” notes John Fear, North Carolina Sea Grant deputy director.

The fellowships provide on-the-job education and training opportunities in coastal resource management and policy for postgraduate students and provide project assistance to state coastal zone management agencies and other key NOAA partners.

The nine fellowship positions start in August 2024 and are available with the California Coastal Commission, the San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission, the coastal programs in Connecticut, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Georgia, Maryland, and Washington, and two of NOAA’s Digital Coast partners, including the Association of State Floodplain Managers (in partnership with the Coastal States Organization) and The Nature Conservancy.

Eligibility requirements, descriptions of the projects, and guidance on how to apply can be found on NOAA’s Office for Coastal Management’s website.

For the 2024 fellowship, applicants must complete a master’s or other advanced degree at an accredited U.S. university between August 1, 2022, and July 31, 2024, to be eligible. A broad range of degrees are applicable to the fellowship because the projects are varied among the host organizations. This two-year opportunity offers a competitive salary, medical benefits, and travel and relocation expense reimbursement.

Applicants from NC universities must apply through the NC Sea Grant online portal.

“Those who are interested should start the process early, including plans for support letters,” Fear notes.

For general information, or for students outside North Carolina, go to Sea Grant’s fellowships page or contact the fellowship coordinator at ocm.fellowships@noaa.gov with any questions.

The NOAA Office for Coastal Management is recruiting candidates for the 2024 Coastal Management and Digital Coast Fellowship Program.
