She will work alongside Sea Grant fisheries specialists to communicate research to anglers and others through North Carolina Sea Grant\u2019s award-winning Hook, Line & Science<\/em> series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Payne is a Ph.D. student in the Environment, Ecology, and Energy Program at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. Her background includes a Bachelor of Biological Science and a Bachelor of World Languages: Chinese from Southern Methodist University and experience researching North Carolina\u2019s fisheries and fisheries habitats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Since 2018, North Carolina Sea Grant fisheries specialists Scott Baker and Sara Mirabilio have curated content for Hook, Line, & Science<\/em><\/a>, <\/em>publishing more than 240 lay-friendly summaries of research of interest to saltwater anglers for the popular weekly series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWe are excited to work with Madeline,\u201d says Baker. \u201cHaving great communication skills is a foundation for being an effective scientist \u2014 and this fellowship provides practical writing experience in spades.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Payne’s fellowship is a year-long assignment in which she will seek out and obtain research articles to write summaries that distill the latest fishery and fish-related research.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n
