Photo by E-Ching Lee.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The <a title=\"Researcher-Educator Exchange Forum\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cosee-se.org\/ForScientists\/researcheducatorexchangeforumreef\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Researcher-Educator Exchange Forum<\/a> (REEF) is accepting applications from scientists for its 2015 forum set for Jan. 23-24, 2015 at NC&#160;State University in Raleigh, N.C. This year&#8217;s theme is <em>Communicating Ocean and Geosciences<\/em>. The call for applications is opened to graduate students, post-doctoral fellows and faculty.<\/p>\n<p>REEF is a two-day professional development workshop that trains scientists to communicate their research to general audiences. Scientists will collaborate with educators to present an outreach program at an informal science center. Scientists are invited to complete the <a title=\"REEF Scientist Application\" href=\"https:\/\/www.surveymonkey.com\/s\/TPZZC9N\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">REEF Scientist Application<\/a> at <a title=\"REEF Scientist Application\" href=\"https:\/\/www.surveymonkey.com\/s\/TPZZC9N\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/www.surveymonkey.com\/s\/TPZZC9N<\/a>. Applications must be submitted by <strong>Dec. 15, 2014<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>REEF is sponsored by the <a title=\"Center for Ocean Sciences Education Excellence SouthEast\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cosee-se.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Center for Ocean Sciences Education Excellence SouthEast<\/a> (COSEE SE) comprised of North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia. COSEE SE \u2014 funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation \u2014 objectives are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Engage scientists and educators in mutually beneficial and catalytic programs.<\/li>\n<li>Facilitate integration of research into high quality educational materials and establish links to foster the development and dissemination of materials.<\/li>\n<li>Increase access to ocean sciences for underrepresented and underserved populations.<\/li>\n<li>Develop and support local, regional and national networks to attain a sustainable communication system among ocean scientists and educators in formal and non-formal or &#8220;free choice&#8221; institutions.<\/li>\n<li>Provide expertise in evaluation strategies and to design instruments that assess and strengthen new and ongoing efforts within the region and the National COSEE Network.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To learn more about REEF and previous forums, visit: <a title=\"Researcher-Educator Exchange Forum\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cosee-se.org\/ForScientists\/researcheducatorexchangeforumreef\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">http:\/\/www.cosee-se.org\/ForScientists\/researcheducatorexchangeforumreef\/<\/a>.
