Contact: Posted Monday, Feb. 9, 2015<\/em><\/p>\n A team of students from the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics<\/a> in Durham won the 2015 Blue Heron Bowl<\/a>, held in Chapel Hill on Feb. 7.<\/p>\n The teams from Raleigh Charter High School<\/a> and Walter Williams High School<\/a> came in second and third, respectively. Twelve teams<\/a> competed this year.<\/p>\n The winning team will represent the state at the National Ocean Sciences Bowl<\/a>. That event, hosted by Gulf Coast Research Laboratory Marine Education Center<\/a>, is set for April 23 to 26 in Ocean Springs, Miss. This year\u2019s theme is The Science of Oil in the Ocean.<\/p>\n North Carolina has hosted the Blue Heron Bowl since 1998. The competition rotates every two years among NC State University, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, University of North Carolina Wilmington and East Carolina University. This year, the competition was hosted by the UNC-CH Marine Sciences Department<\/a> and Institute of Marine Sciences<\/a>.<\/p>\n Besides the hosts, sponsors of this year\u2019s bowl<\/span> were North Carolina Sea Grant<\/a>, Duke University Marine Lab<\/a>, Discovery Diving<\/a> and Seahorse Coastal Consulting<\/a>.
