North Carolina<\/a> and Virginia Sea Grant<\/a> programs are collaborating to highlight best management practices, or BMPs, for marine finfish aquaculture in North Carolina.<\/p>\n

This training session will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. April 15 at North Carolina State University\u2019s Center for Marine Sciences and Technology in Morehead City.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will cover a variety of topics for folks interested in the great potential for marine finfish aquaculture,\u201d says Chuck Weirich, North Carolina Sea Grant\u2019s aquaculture specialist.\u00a0\u201cThis workshop will help set the stage for development of this industry in the state.\u201d<\/p>\n

Discussions will include an overview of the state\u2019s current rules and regulations, and candidate species for production in North Carolina, along with BMPs for various production methods, systems and management techniques.<\/p>\n

Other partners include Carteret Community College, CMAST, North Carolina Cooperative Extension, Virginia Cooperative Extension, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and University of Maryland.<\/p>\n
