The new North Carolina Space Grant\/North Carolina Sea Grant Graduate Research Fellowship Program<\/a> is accepting applications from graduate students across the state.<\/p>\n

Proposed projects should apply relevant measurement instruments and\/or remote sensing data sources from NASA, NOAA, or other data sources. The program will focus on nearshore environs and coastal watersheds. Proposed projects should apply relevant measurement instruments and\/or remote sensing data sources from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), or other data sources.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are pleased to initiate this fellowship that will draw upon the wealth of data from NOAA and NASA to focus on coastal needs,\u201d notes Susan White<\/a>, North Carolina Sea Grant executive director.<\/p>\n

Chris Brown, vice president for research for the University of North Carolina system and director of North Carolina Space Grant, agrees. \u201cWe anticipate the new projects will engage students in interdisciplinary topics that draw upon traditional strengths of the Sea Grant and Space Grant programs,\u201d he adds.<\/p>\n

Applications are being accepted for up to two 12-month graduate fellowships for the 2016-2017 academic year. Applicants must be a full-time, enrolled graduate student at an accredited college or university within North Carolina and a U. S. citizen.<\/p>\n

Fellowships of up to $10,000 may be awarded for masters or doctoral students. The proposed research must be supervised by a faculty mentor and completed no later than August 2017. A final report must be completed no later than Sept. 30, 2017.<\/p>\n

This is a competitive fellowship program supported by North Carolina Space Grant in partnership with NASA, North Carolina Sea Grant in partnership with NOAA, and the State of North Carolina.<\/p>\n
