Coastal Reserve and National Estuarine Research Reserve, <\/em><a href=\"mailto:brandon.puckett@ncdenr.gov\"><em>brandon.puckett@ncdenr.gov<\/em><\/a><br \/>\n<em>John Fear, North Carolina Sea Grant, 919-515-9104, <\/em><a href=\"mailto:jmfear@ncsu.edu\"><em>jmfear@ncsu.edu<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Posted Thursday, October 6, 2016<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nccoastalreserve.net\/web\/crp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">North Carolina Coastal Reserve and National Estuarine Research Reserve<\/a> joins <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncseagrant.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">North Carolina Sea Grant<\/a> to open applications for a joint fellowship, with proposals due by <strong>5 p.m., Nov. 21, 2016<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/ncseagrant.ncsu.edu\/nc-coastal-research-fellowship\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">N.C. Coastal Research Fellowship<\/a> provides North Carolina-based graduate students with an opportunity to conduct research within one or more of the 10 sites that constitute the Coastal Reserve. \u201cUsing the reserve sites as a research platform, fellows must conduct hypothesis-based projects that address coastal management issues,\u201d notes Brandon Puckett, research coordinator for the Coastal Reserve.<\/p>\n<p>The proposed research must fit into one or more of the following broad focus areas:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Interaction between ecosystem services and changing environmental conditions.<\/li>\n<li>Resilience or vulnerability of coastal ecosystems and human communities to coastal hazards.<\/li>\n<li>Linkages among land use and water quality and\/or water quality and coastal habitats.<\/li>\n<li>Evaluation of habitat restoration practices and\/or shoreline stabilization approaches.<\/li>\n<li>Impact of invasive species on coastal ecosystems and human communities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cThese focus areas reflect the research and outreach missions of both programs in serving coastal North Carolina,\u201d adds <a href=\"https:\/\/ncseagrant.ncsu.edu\/about-us\/our-team\/john-fear\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">John Fear<\/a>, Sea Grant deputy director.<\/p>\n<p>One $10,000 fellowship is expected to be awarded.
