Contact: <\/em> Two graduate students will use satellite and remote sensing data in new research projects exploring oyster reefs and storm impacts on the North Carolina coast.<\/p>\n They were chosen in a competitive fellowship program supported by North Carolina\u2019s Space Grant<\/a> and Sea Grant<\/a> programs. Both are federal\/state partnerships. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration<\/a> hosts the Space Grant network, while the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration<\/a> houses the National Sea Grant College Program<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cIt is exciting for these programs to continue to provide this unique opportunity,\u201d notes Susan White<\/a>, executive director of North Carolina Sea Grant and interim director of North Carolina Space Grant. \u201cNASA and NOAA have extensive data sets, with more being gathered every day. Our graduate fellows are using the information and visualizations to consider very real issues in our coastal communities.\u201d<\/p>\n The fellowship was open to graduate students across the state.
