Letter from the Executive Director

Winter 2022: What Is North Carolina Sea Grant?

Five years ago we made the video above to begin to answer the question What Is North Carolina Sea Grant?

Since then, North Carolina Sea Grant has continued to evolve and expand, yet much of our work addresses the same important coastal issues.

While some of the faces have changed, we remain committed to healthy coastal ecosystems, sustainable fisheries and aquaculture, strong communities and coastal economies, and education and outreach.

The 2022 North Carolina Coastal Conference in November has re-energized us as we head into 2023, and you can watch much of the conference here, in this special digital issue of Coastwatch.

We’re taking on exciting new work in climate resiliency, eco-tourism, environmental health, and many other areas, while continuing to build on our long history of research and real-world solutions for our coast. Our new Strategic Plan outlines how we’ll continue to support coastal North Carolina as challenges and new opportunities arise over the next few years.

The new plan provides a comprehensive look at we do and what we hope to achieve on behalf of our state — but the video above still provides a great place to begin to answer What is North Carolina Sea Grant?
