Combine flour, cornmeal, salt, pepper and cayenne in large bowl. Dredge crabs in mixture.
In large skillet, heat oil to 375°F. Put crabs in, topside down. Cook until reddish-brown on one side, about 5 minutes. Use tongs or spatula to turn. Cook until done, about 5 more minutes. Drain on paper towels.
Serve with tartar sauce, if desired.
