After being closed to the public for more than two years for renovations, the Cape Lookout Lighthouse reopened to excited climbers in July. Views from the top of the 163-foot tower have drawn locals and visitors. The lighthouse will be open for climbing from mid-May to mid-September each year. Though still an active aid in navigation, ownership of the Cape Lookout Lighthouse was transferred from the U.S. Coast Guard to the National Park Service in 2003. Cape Lookout National Seashore is accessible only by boat. For ferry and ticket information visit: www.nps.gov/calo.
