Focus on Fisheries with Scott Baker

Hello! My name is Scott Baker and I am a fisheries specialist with North Carolina Sea Grant. I’m based in Wilmington at the University of North Carolina Wilmington Center for Marine Science.

I help the commercial and recreational fishing communities understand and apply the latest in fisheries management, research and technology.

For this blog, I hope to write about some of my current projects and activities including

  • Developing a webinar series to replace the N.C. Marine Recreational Fisheries Forum,
  • Partnering with N.C. Division of Marine Fisheries to educate commercial fishermen about fisheries observing, and
  • Highlighting results from a constant stream of fisheries research and education projects.

I’m originally from Washington, N.C., and hold a master’s in oceanography and coastal sciences from Louisiana State University and a bachelor’s in biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Prior to joining Sea Grant in 2003, I worked as a research associate at Louisiana State University on all things red snapper. Before that, I was a biological science technician for the National Marine Fisheries Service in Panama City, Fla.
