Applications Open for 2023-24 NC STEM Policy Post-Graduate Fellowships

North Carolina Sea Grant is accepting applications for the 2023 NC STEM Policy Post-Graduate Fellowship program until 5 p.m. on March 27, 2023. The fellowships provide graduate students from North Carolina colleges and universities with post-graduate opportunities to serve full-time for a year in high-level state government offices, focusing on policy topics related to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Applications Open for Joint NC Sea Grant/NC Space Grant Graduate Research Fellowship

North Carolina’s Space Grant and Sea Grant programs are currently accepting applications for Graduate Research Fellowships for the 2023-2024 academic year. Two fellowships of up to $10,000 may be awarded to students whose projects address a priority research need within the state’s nearshore environments, coastal areas, watersheds or human activities in these areas.

Alligators Exposed to PFAS Show Autoimmune Effects

A recent study of alligators in the Cape Fear River found the animals had elevated levels of 14 different per- and polyfluoroalkyl (PFAS) chemicals in their blood serum, as well as clinical and genetic indicators of immune system effects. The work adds to the body of evidence connecting PFAS exposure with adverse immune system effects.
