Researchers Forecast Healthier Neuse River Oxygen Levels

As summer officially starts this week, scientists at North Carolina State University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill are forecasting higher levels of dissolved oxygen for the Neuse River Estuary. Compared to last summer, the predictive model indicates a smaller likelihood of stresses to the ecosystem, including fish kills. North Carolina Sea Grant funded the research.

NC Sea Grant’s Spencer Rogers Wins NC State University Award for Excellence

NC State University recently announced its 2019 Awards for Excellence winners. Spencer Rogers, coastal construction and erosion specialist for North Carolina Sea Grant, is one of 12 winners of the highest honor given annually to non-faculty staff at NC State. Rogers had been nominated by the university's Office of Research and Innovation.

Whitehead to Be First NC Chief Resilience Officer

The N.C. Office of Recovery and Resiliency has announced Jessica Whitehead will take on new duties as chief resilience officer. For 11 years, Whitehead has served as the coastal communities hazards adaptation specialist for North Carolina Sea Grant. She assumes the new position June 3.
