Spencer Rogers of North Carolina Sea Grant is a Coastal Steward of the Year in the 2014 Walter B. Jones Sr. Awards presented by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Sea Grant’s Barbara Doll was among four North Carolina graduate students also receiving Jones honors.

Hathaway’s Contributions Recognized by National Marine Sanctuary

Terri Kirby Hathaway was honored recently for her service on the Monitor National Marine Sanctuary, or MNMS, advisory council. Hathaway, North Carolina Sea Grant’s marine education specialist, held the council’s education seat from 2008 to 2014.

NC Sea Grant Seeks Applicants for Knauss Fellowship

This national opportunity is offered by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s National Sea Grant College Program. Applications must be received by 5 p.m., Feb. 13, 2015.

Joint Sea Grant/DMF Fellow Begins Appointment

Liza Hoos, the 2014 North Carolina Sea Grant/N.C. Division of Marine Fisheries joint fellow, recently began her assignment. In collaboration with DMF, she will estimate bycatch “hot spots” using fishery-independent and -dependent data.
