Resiliency Workshop Set for April 21 in Hyde County

The North Carolina Rural Economic Development Center and Hyde County are holding a Disaster Resiliency Workshop on Tuesday, April 21, in Swan Quarter. The workshop is a resource for anyone who assists communities with disaster preparation and relief efforts including volunteers, government officials, local board members, citizens, and representatives of fire departments, schools, community organizations and relief organizations.

The workshop will begin at 8:30 a.m. in the Hyde County Government Center Multipurpose Room located at 30 Oyster Creek Road in Swan Quarter. Hyde County, North Carolina Sea Grant, the N.C. Coastal Federation, the N.C. Division of Soil and Water Conservation, and the N.C. Rural Center all are sponsors of the event.

The training will include a tour of Hyde County’s extensive dike system and other local flood-prevention and mitigation efforts. A complete description of the workshop, guest speakers and agenda is available here.

Speakers include: Alice Keeney, retired county planner and economic developer for Hyde County; Jessica Whitehead, Sea Grant coastal communities hazards adaptation specialist; a representative from the National Weather Service; Kris Cahoon Noble, Hyde County planning and economic development director; Erin Fleckenstein, coastal scientist with the federation; and Daniel Brinn, from the Hyde County soil and water conservation district, among others.
