The Sea Grant programs of Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina and the NOAA Office for Coastal Management (OCM) are jointly soliciting preproposals for a Southeast Region research project focused on coastal community resilience.

Each proposal should be from a team of researchers — one from each state — who will work in a partnership with a coastal community in each state, as well as engage with our Sea Grant extension specialists and the OCM.

The desired outcome is a quantitative assessment of the efficacy of a new or existing tool that can be used by coastal communities in South Atlantic states to increase their resilience to hazards — contemporary, such as storm surge, and future such as sea level rise.

One research project will be funded for two years for up $225,000 per year or $450,000 total.

One member of the team must take on the role of lead PI to be responsible for submitting all required materials to Florida Sea Grant by Feb. 13, 2015, at 4 p.m. There will be no extensions beyond this deadline.

As explained in the RFP, the budgets of individual co-PIs are limited to $100,000 for two years; the lead PI should include an additional $25,000 per year for project coordination, team meetings, etc. There is a required match of $25,000 in non-federal funds for every $100,000 of federal funds requested.
