The North Carolina Sentinel Site Cooperative and North Carolina Sea Grant are accepting applications for a joint graduate fellowship for research that must occur in the cooperative’s geography, which includes 22 counties.
The one-year project must focus on one of the sea level rise and/or inundation topics outlined in the detailed request for fellowship proposals that Sea Grant has posted on its website.
“Our cooperative covers a diverse array of North Carolina coastal habitats and communities, including low-lying marsh ecosystems, barrier islands, the urban center of Wilmington, and many rural communities and small coastal towns,” explains Sarah Spiegler, coordinator for the cooperative.
Graduate students in good academic standing attending an accredited N.C. college or university may propose projects of up to $9,999 to meet needs identified within the cooperative’s implementation plan.
The national Sea Grant and Sentinel Site networks each receive funding from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
Proposals must include an outreach/dissemination plan and comprehensive methods to evaluate the success of the project. The student’s major professor must agree to manage the fellowship funding.
Application materials must be received by 5 p.m. Friday, June 14, 2019. Applications should be sent to Spiegler at sespiegl@ncsu.edu. Incomplete and late applications will not be accepted.
