Scuppernong Water Study Workshop

A workshop set for later this month is to give residents an opportunity to voice how water-related issues on the northern Albemarle-Pamlico peninsula are impacting them and their community. The family-friendly workshop is a kickoff event for the Scuppernong Water Study project. The event is set for 5:30-7:30 p.m. Oct. 23 at the Eastern 4-H Center in Columbia. Dinner will be provided at no charge.

Intro to Living Shorelines Course

This 3-hour session will serve as an introduction to the selling points/implementation/feasibility of living shorelines. This course offers the foundation for understanding causes and solutions for shoreline erosion, habitat enhancement, and stabilization techniques.

NC Bradford Pear Bounty Tree Exchange

The Bradford Bounty  Exchange is a collaborate effort between the NC Urban Forest Council, NC State Extension, NC Forest Service and NC Wildlife Federation that aims to reduce the amount of invasive Bradford pear trees in North Carolina and expand native tree canopy. Participants who cut down Bradford pear trees on their property may register to pick up to five native trees of their choice at the Bradford Bounty Exchange event.

National Weather Service Wilmington Open House

National Weather Service in Wilmington will be hosting their first open house in almost 30 years. Come visit North Carolina Sea Grant and our friends from Wrightsville Beach Ocean Rescue, NOAA, and National Weather Service. There will be outdoor booths, fun for kids, and raffles.

Priority Issues in Coastal North Carolina: A Forum by The Coastal Society

The Coastal Society (TCS) (https://thecoastalsociety.org/) invites you to attend a forum on Priority Issues in Coastal North Carolina, hosted by UNCW's Center for Marine Science in partnership with North Carolina Sea Grant. This one-day in-person event will feature plenary speakers from state government, NGOs, and academia plus breakout sessions for in-depth discussion of priority coastal issues in North Carolina - Natural & Community Resilience, PFAS, and Marine Spatial Planning. Join us for lively dialogue and extensive networking throughout the event and afterwards (happy hour at Wilmington Brewing Company!). All coastal or environmental professionals and students at the undergraduate level or higher are encouraged to attend and anyone interested in these topics is also welcome!
