UPDATE: Applications are expected to close on Monday, Oct. 28, 2019.
North Carolina Sea Grant is looking for a coastal resilience specialist to be stationed at the program’s Raleigh office.
Requirements and other details are available in the online posting: https://jobs.ncsu.edu/postings/123332.
“Our resilience specialist will provide technical assistance for coastal communities to identify immediate and long-term impacts of natural hazards,” notes Frank Lopez, Sea Grant’s extension director. “The specialist also would help local leaders to consider research-based strategies to reduce vulnerabilities, based on their particular ecosystems and infrastructure.”
The opening arose when Jess Whitehead moved in June to the N.C. Department of Public Safety to become the state’s first chief resilience officer.
“During Jess’ tenure with us, the coastal region saw growing interest in building resilience and seeking adaptations to reduce risks,” says Susan White, Sea Grant executive director. “We will continue our role in research and outreach on these topics and as a key collaborator.”
In particular, the specialist will lead planning, implementing and evaluating extension programming regarding a range of resilience issues.
The online application also requires a resume, cover letter, and contacts for three professional references. Salary is commensurate with qualifications.
