The 2015 Blue Heron Bowl will take place at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on Feb. 7.

This quiz bowl is focused on marine science topics. In the competition, two teams, each composed of four students and one alternate will square off against each other to answer marine science-related questions.

There will be a set of matches, each match consisting of six minutes of toss-up and bonus questions, followed by two team challenge questions and ending with a final six minutes of toss-up and bonus questions.

Students are coached by a marine science or general science teacher. Participating schools, listed by county, include:

Alamance

Dare

  • Manteo High School

Durham

  • North Carolina School of Science and Math

New Hanover

  • Eugene Ashley High School
  • Hoggard High School

Orange

  • East Chapel Hill High School

Wake

  • Green Hope High School
  • Millbrook High School
  • Raleigh Charter High School

Winners of the Blue Heron Bowl will be sent to the National Ocean Science Bowl competition in April, this year in Mississippi. For more information on the national competition, go to http://nosb.org/.
