North Carolina shellfish producers are invited to learn more about U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Farm Service Agency, or FSA, programs at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 25.

The event will be held in Room 305 in NC State University’s Center for Marine Sciences and Technology, or CMAST, in Morehead City.

North Carolina Sea Grant, Carteret Community College and the N.C. Shellfish Growers Association are co-sponsors.

The meeting will provide an overview of the federal programs available to shellfish producers, including farm loans, the Noninsured Crop Disaster Assistance Program, also known as NAP, and the Rural Energy for America Program, or REAP.

Participants will receive instructions to complete applications for the NAP program that are due Sept. 1, 2015. In addition, speakers will give updates on research activities and legislation affecting the shellfish industry.

To register, please contact Vanda Lewis, Sea Grant, at 252-222-6307 or vanda_lewis@ncsu.edu. Attendance is limited to the first 50 people who sign up. Refreshments will be provided.

If you cannot attend and wish to learn more about available FSA programs, contact Kay Yates of USDA FSA at 252-637-3567 or kay.yates@nc.usda.gov.

CMAST is located off Highway 70 at 303 College Circle, next to Carteret Community College.
