Updated Thursday, February 4, 2016 due to a change in the time of the workshop. Originally posted Wednesday, December 9, 2015.

North Carolina Sea Grant is offering a free Shellfish Aquaculture Workshop on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event will be held in conjunction with the North Carolina Aquaculture Development Conference at the Doubletree by Hilton Riverfront Hotel in New Bern.

Participants also will get to attend the annual meeting of the North Carolina Shellfish Growers Association, as well as receive free admission to the industry trade show at the N.C. Aquaculture Development Conference.

The workshop is funded by a grant through the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration/National Sea Grant 2015 Aquaculture Extension and Technology Transfer program.

“There will be a wealth of information provided on a number of shellfish culture-related topics for potential and established growers, including leasing and siting, budgets and marketing, culture gear, and shellfish culture species with potential in North Carolina,” says Chuck Weirich, Sea Grant marine aquaculture specialist.

Lunch will be provided. There is no cost to attend the workshop but registration is required — even if you already are signed up for the N.C. Aquaculture Development Conference.

To register, contact Vanda Lewis at 252-222-6307 or vanda_lewis@ncsu.edu.

The North Carolina Aquaculture Development Conference will take place Feb. 12 and 13, 2016, in New Bern. Go here for more information about this event.
