Shape of the Coast Legal Symposium
North Carolina Sea Grant (NCSG) is a founding partner of the Shape of the Coast legal learning symposium. Shape of the Coast is a forum focused on marine policy and legal issues related to ocean and coastal resources. Shape of the Coast programming, in addition to meeting CLE requirements, provides an accessible opportunity for legal practitioners, policymakers, students, and a general audience to come together and learn. This engagement results in new partnerships and opportunities to address coastal management priorities.
NCSG, in partnership with the N.C. Department of Environmental Quality’s Office of General Counsel and the National Sea Grant Law Center, is committed to increasing accessibility for this legal learning symposium. As such, we anticipate holding it in conjunction with the biennial Coastal Conference. This year, Shape of the Coast will be held concurrently with the Coastal Conference on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, in New Bern, NC.
Continuing Legal Education (CLE)
Shape of the Coast has been developed in partnership with a variety of legal experts and will support law and policy students in an engaging manner through a mentorship approach. Professionals and students will partner to develop relevant topical presentations and write at least eight peer-reviewed scholarly articles. The proposed interdisciplinary topics and partnership model will strengthen current relationships as well as develop new legal networks to address priority state, regional, and coastal needs for current and future professionals.
This interdisciplinary legal symposium has been approved for 6 CLE credits.
