NC Sea Grant Extends Deadline for Resource Management Research Proposals

North Carolina-based researchers are invited to propose research studies that would meet resource management needs identified by North Carolina state agencies. Due date for proposal submission is Dec. 15, 2021.
“We are pleased to offer this opportunity for the research community to directly connect with agencies that manage critical natural resources in our coastal region and related watersheds,” says John Fear, deputy director of North Carolina Sea Grant. “We encourage submissions from a variety of researchers across the state, including those in Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Minority-Serving Institutions.”
The topics this year include:
- Blue crabs
- Oysters
- Scallops
- Clams
- Shrimp
- Habitats
The full request for proposals identifies specific topics for each category. It is available online at go.ncsu.edu/coastal-grant.
Proposals can be for one-year projects, with budgets up to $60,000 in grant funds. Projects will be funded with state dollars, which do not allow indirect costs to be charged. Matching funds are not required but are encouraged, especially for full-budget request proposals.
Proposals must include a hypothesis-based research question and a strong outreach/extension component. Sea Grant is not able to fund monitoring-only projects.
“We encourage researchers to include student training opportunities as part of all Sea Grant projects,” Fear adds.
