Coastwatch Covers Accelerating Sea Level Rise, a New Safety Alert on PFAS, and Much More

The Fall 2023 issue of North Carolina Sea Grant’s award-winning Coastwatch magazine features new research showing accelerating sea level rise on the Southeast and Gulf coasts, a new safety alert on PFAS in the Cape Fear River, and an in-depth look at environmental justice and disaster recovery. The latest edition also includes the story of a tagged shark that resurfaced 23 years later, as well as a look at prescribed fires and much more.

North Carolina Sea Grant Advances Nationwide Internship Program

North Carolina Sea Grant will facilitate the selection of 40 interns from underrepresented and indigenous communities. The undergraduates will receive funding, professional development and training, hands-on experience, and mentorship.

Lauren D. Pharr Receives Governor’s Conservation Achievement Award

Lauren D. Pharr, contributing editor for Coastwatch magazine and third-year Ph.D. student in North Carolina State University's College of Natural Resources, has earned the 2023 Governor's Conservation Achievement Award for Young Conservationist of the Year.

Coastwatch Magazine Spotlights NC’s New Resilience Programs, MacArthur Fellow J. Drew Lanham, and More

The Summer 2023 issue of North Carolina Sea Grant’s award-winning Coastwatch magazine features a video interview with MacArthur Fellow J. Drew Lanham, a look at new climate resilience programs, and a day out on “The Graveyard of the Atlantic” with Bland Simpson. The latest edition also includes new research on plastic pollution in the Neuse, as well as a 50-year study that determined sea level rise endangers 90% of the world’s salt marshes.

Graduate Student Funding Available Now for Ghost Forest Research

North Carolina Sea Grant and North Carolina Space Grant are offering a special joint funding opportunity for graduate student research on ghost forests. Full-time graduate students at colleges and universities in North Carolina are eligible to apply for the $10,000 award.
