Applications Due Jan. 21 for NOAA Coastal Fellowships

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Office for Coastal Management announces that the 2022 Coastal Management and Digital Coast Fellowship applications are now open.

“These fellowships provide on-the-job opportunities in coastal resource management and policy, while also offering key expertise to state coastal zone management agencies and other key NOAA partners,” notes John Fear, North Carolina Sea Grant deputy director.

North Carolina Sea Grant is accepting online applications from current and recent graduate students who receive their degrees from colleges and universities in the state. Applications must be completed by 5 p.m., Jan. 21, 2022, through the eSeaGrant portal: go.ncsu.edu/ncesg. The site includes details regarding requirements for the application package.

The positions start in August 2022. The two-year opportunity offers a competitive salary, medical benefits, and travel and relocation expense reimbursement. Through a new partnership with the National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science, three additional fellows will be added to the program in 2022, for a total of nine Coastal Management Fellowship opportunities with state and territorial coastal programs. The NOAA Digital Coast Fellowship also places up to three fellows with Digital Coast Partner organizations every other year, for a total of 12 fellowship opportunities in the national program in 2022.

Applicants must complete a master’s or other advanced degree at an accredited U.S. university between Aug. 1, 2020  and July 31, 2022, to be eligible. A broad range of degrees will apply to the fellowships because the projects are varied across the host organizations.
