The North Carolina Coastal Conference returns on Nov. 7 and 8, 2022, and will take place at the McKimmon Center at NC State University in Raleigh.

“We are looking forward to gathering researchers, agency and business experts, community leaders, students and all who are interested in coastal topics for these engaging presentations and discussions,” notes Susan White, executive director of North Carolina Sea Grant, which hosts the recurring event.

For 2022, members of the Sea Grant team, its advisory board, and various partners will be planning the event. The University of North Carolina System has already joined Sea Grant as a sponsor.

While the conference had been on hold during COVID-19 restrictions, the event this year will include in-person and some hybrid sessions to optimize participation and ensure accessibility. The event will offer presentations on a range of current issues related to coastal communities and economies, as well as ecosystems, including watersheds that feed into coastal waters. Topics can focus on relevant research or outreach from STEM fields to the arts, education, and humanities.

“We will have invited speakers, as well as an abstract submission process for presentations, lightning talks and a student poster competition,” adds John Fear, Sea Grant deputy director.

Sea Grant will open a request for abstracts for talks and posters on May 9. Abstracts submitted for consideration will propose either an oral, poster, or alternative style presentation.

Registration and other details will be available soon. Check for updates on the NC Sea Grant website and social media; watch for the hashtag #NCCoastConf on social media for updated information.

The conference website will be at Check back as information is added re: registration, abstracts, or to become a conference sponsor.
