North Carolina Sea Grant Seeks Coastal Processes Specialist

“The position focuses on solutions and best practices to the resilience challenges North Carolina coastal communities confront,” notes Frank López, North Carolina Sea Grant extension director. “We are looking for an experienced outreach professional to serve as a technical resource on hazards, such as those related to climate change and coastal ecosystems, and to work with communities and partners on practices that build resilience.” 

The specialist will contribute to research motivated by community needs —  and will provide hands-on operational and technical support. Topics may include coastal response to storms, sea level change and erosion factors, coastal and riverine flooding, coastal engineering, and other synergistic topics.

The preferred education and experience include at least a master’s degree in engineering, geosciences, coastal/marine science, or related field, and one year of work following graduation in coastal processes, erosion management, shoreline engineering, engineering project management, design, or related topics. 

The program’s preferred location for the position is in Wilmington, N.C., at the North Carolina Sea Grant office at the University of North Carolina Wilmington Center for Marine Science. The anticipated closing date for applications is Dec. 9, 2022.
